How It Works

From first conversation to first charge session — here's what to expect.

Bringing fast EV charging to your property is a significant infrastructure project. Voltiva manages every phase — but we believe in transparency, so here is exactly what the process looks like from start to finish.

1

Site qualification

It starts with a conversation. Our development team evaluates your property based on location, traffic patterns, parking configuration, and proximity to electrical infrastructure. We run a quick feasibility check and get back to you fast.

Most commercial properties in our markets qualify. If yours does, we'll move quickly to the next step.

What we need from you

  • A property address and basic site description
  • A point of contact for site access and coordination
  • Any known electrical capacity or utility information (helpful but not required)
2

Site design & proposal

Our engineering team conducts a detailed site walk and designs the charging layout, electrical infrastructure plan, and equipment specification. We present a clear proposal that includes charger count, type, and placement; full infrastructure scope; project timeline and key milestones; and parking stall rent terms.

There is no obligation at this stage. Review the proposal, ask questions, and take your time.

3

Agreement & permitting

Once you approve the proposal, we execute a site host agreement and immediately begin the permitting and utility interconnect process. This is the longest phase of most projects — not because of anything we control, but because utility engineering reviews and municipal permits take time.

Our local market expertise means we know how to navigate each utility's process efficiently. We handle every application, follow-up, and inspection — you'll receive regular status updates throughout.

What happens in this phase

  • Site host agreement execution
  • Utility interconnect application and engineering review
  • Municipal and county permitting
  • Final electrical engineering drawings
  • Equipment procurement and lead-time management
4

Construction & installation

With permits in hand and equipment on order, our licensed electrical contractors mobilize. Construction is typically the most visible phase — and often the fastest. We coordinate all trades and manage the job site from start to finish.

What gets built

  • Transformer and utility connection
  • Switchgear and metering enclosure
  • Underground conduit and wiring trenching
  • Charger hardware mounting and electrical terminations
  • Pavement striping, signage, lighting, and bollards
5

Commissioning & go-live

Before your chargers go live, we complete network activation, OCPP testing, payment system configuration, and all required utility and municipal inspections. We conduct a final walkthrough with your team to confirm everything meets your expectations.

When the chargers go live, your parking stall rent begins.

6

Ongoing operations

Voltiva owns and operates your charging infrastructure for the full term of the site host agreement.

You will never receive a maintenance invoice or a service call from us. If something needs attention, we handle it.

That means

  • 24/7 remote network monitoring and fault detection
  • Proactive hardware maintenance and rapid on-site response
  • Driver support available around the clock
  • Monthly parking stall rent payments to your team
  • Quarterly performance reporting
  • Equipment upgrades as technology evolves
